Each year, a variety of bird species travel thousands of miles between their summer in the US and Canada to their winter breeding grounds in Central and South America. The Susquehanna River Valley is an important location along the migratory pathway, providing crucial habitat where birds can rest and refuel on their journey. Songbirds, shorebirds, waterfowl and raptors can be seen and heard easily in the fall months on most of the trails and preserves. Your event leader, Sarah Gotwols, will help you to explore the world of Pennsylvania’s migratory visitors, and sharpen your observation skills as a birder. This walk is intended for beginners through intermediate birders and is recommended for ages 10+. The event includes an easy hike, and will run rain or shine with cancellations for severe weather made at the time of the event. Restroom facilities are not available onsite. Please bring binoculars if you have them, drinking water, and any snacks you may want. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes.
