Coronation Celebration

Coronation Celebration

A 30 minute concert of British music on the eve of King Charles’ coronation will celebrate the founding of First Reformed Church in Lancaster, 40 E Orange Street, under British rule in 1729. The all-organ concert on Friday, May 5 at 8 PM, will feature resident organist Larry Hershey in a program including “Fanfare” by William Mathias, “Elegy” by John Ireland, and “Nimrod” from Enigma Variations by Edward Elgar. The program concludes with William Walton’s “Crown Imperial”, commissioned for the coronation of King George VI in Westminster Abbey in 1937.

This series of free First Friday concerts is a gift to the community from First Reformed Church, a center city congregation of the United Church of Christ. Only 30 minutes in length, the free concerts begin at 8 PM each First Friday for the convenience of those who wish to spend the early evening visiting downtown galleries before the concert. Doors open at 7:30 pm. All are welcome to hear 30 minutes of inspiring organ music that will refresh your soul and inspire your spirit.
