Friends of Mount Bethel Cemetery announces a fundraiser to benefit Columbia’s historic Mount Bethel Cemetery. The cemetery, located near downtown Columbia, is the final resting place of many persons who played key roles in Columbia’s history. The cemetery’s statuary and grave markers are striking. Mount Bethel Cemetery will be the site of the fourth Fête en Noir, a fundraising event that continues to grow in popularity. This year’s fête, slated for Friday, September 9, will feature live music. Reserved seating for the fundraiser is available now through August 31.
Entrance to the grounds will begin at 5:30 PM. This bring-your-own-picnic event will run from 6 to 9 PM, with seating provided for this outdoor event. As much as possible, attendees are asked to dress in black. Supporters of the cemetery are encouraged to create a festive atmosphere by inviting friends to share seating at a table. It is recommended that interested parties form groups of individuals with whom they are comfortable dining and then reserve a table for their group. Tables of various sizes will be provided to accommodate differing group sizes.
This year the Fête en Noir will feature live music by well-known local group The Kracker Beez. This 3-piece band consisting of guitar, bass, and drums will play classic party rock ‘n roll with a big sound. A variety of well-known classic tunes will be included and will serve as a backdrop for your dancing and listening Comprised of veteran musicians and singers, The Kracker Beez started in 2007 as a “happy hour” band, but quickly began getting a lot of private work and building a following. Expect a fun atmosphere that is not too loud or heavy!
Seating will be limited to the first 500 people. Admission at a cost of $20 per person prior to the event must be prepaid by August 31. If the event is not sold out by the end of August, admission will be $25 per person while available seating remains. To reserve space for your group, call Friends of Mount Bethel Cemetery at 717-681-6768 or email the organization using friendsofmtbethel@gmail.com.
