Wizard Ranch Open House

The Conservancy has recently completed a Master Plan for two nature preserves, Wizard Ranch and Hellam Hills, which compose the Hellam Hills Conservation Area in York County consisting of 1,041 acres. The Conservation Area is expected to grow to over 2,000 acres with the addition of almost 1,100 acres of natural land, an acquisition which is expected to settle in late 2023.

Join Conservancy staff and the design firm for the master plan, Simone Collins, to take a short one hour tour at Wizard Ranch Nature Preserve and learn more about the restoration efforts, recreation opportunities, and infrastructure improvements planned for the site over the next several years.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Please register for one of the tour times offered the afternoon of Friday, May 6 and 13. Participants will go on a short 1-2 mile hike with multiple stops to learn more about different projects that over time will improve the nature preserve for wildlife, the environment, and our community.

Participants should bring their own water bottle and any personal items needed for a one hour tour that will take place entirely outdoors. Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes that you can walk on uneven ground in. Please note there is no restroom available at this nature preserve.

Participants will be asked to sign a waiver when they arrive.

WEATHER

This event will take place rain or shine. Please note that in the event of extreme weather, such as thunderstorms, a decision to cancel the event will be made on site at the time of the event.

GETTING THERE & PARKING

This open house will take place at Wizard Ranch Nature Preserve. Participants should enter Wizard Ranch Nature Preserve at the gated entrance along Accomac Road between Dark Hollow Road and Furnace Road: 40.038380, -76.572305 (please click on this link for the exact google coordinates). Staff will be on hand to direct parking in the field.

Please note that at this time this gated access to the preserve will only be opened for this event.
