While many of us are currently contemplating Halloween costumes, others are researching the latest fall and holiday fashion trends. Thanks to the Women’s Symphony Association (WSA), you’ll be able to see the season’s newest looks when The Charlotte Shoppe takes to the runway during the WSA’s annual Fashion Show, Luncheon & Raffle being held Saturday, November 7, at the Eden Resort.
It all began in 1953, when 13 women organized to promote symphony orchestras. Their first fundraising project was serving beverages during intermission of a local high school’s music event. Since then, the organization has grown significantly, thanks to endowment funds (Maude Bates Fund and Barbara Little Endowment Fund), community support, volunteers and partnerships with other music-related organizations such as the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra, Gretna Music, Music for Everyone, Allegro Orchestra, SWAN, Music in the Schools and the International Piano Festival.
In addition to championing music education, the WSA has sponsored a music competition since 1983 (2026’s competition was hosted by the Lancaster Symphony and was co-sponsored by Friends of the LSO). Now called the Rising Stars Concerto Competition, it is open to students (nationwide) in grades 8-12. The competition allows students to demonstrate their skills, perform with a professional orchestra and compete for academic scholarships. The 2026 finalists performed with the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra in July.
The annual Fashion Show, Luncheon & Raffle helps to raise funds for those endeavors, as well as for Lancaster’s music community. This year’s fashion show will feature clothing and accessories from The Charlotte Shoppe. Located at 32 W. King Street in Downtown Lancaster, the shop, which was founded by Lisa Balaci in Sinking Spring, Berks County, in 2005, and opened in Lancaster a year later, features contemporary and upscale clothing and accessories. The event will also feature raffle items and lunch. The event will run from 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Reservation deadline is October 18.
