Community Engagement: On and Off Campus
At Fairmount, community engagement is an essential part of living well and aging well. We believe people thrive through meaningful relationships, purposeful involvement and connection to something larger than themselves.
On campus, we encourage residents to participate in social, educational, spiritual, volunteer and wellness opportunities that foster friendship, belonging and personal growth. Volunteers support our mission in many ways, including visiting with residents, assisting with activities and events, helping with worship services and Bible studies, participating in singing groups, supporting administrative and hospitality functions, growing vegetables that are freshly served in our café and maintaining our flower beds throughout campus. They also assist at community events such as concerts, health expos and blood drives. In addition, volunteers share their unique talents and skills through educational presentations, creative programs, seasonal events and intergenerational activities.
Beyond our campus, we seek to remain actively connected to the broader community through relationships with churches, schools, businesses and local organizations. Fairmount regularly hosts a variety of events, workshops and seminars that are open to residents, families and members of the broader community. We believe that meaningful connections enrich lives, and we welcome opportunities to engage with neighbors and friends both on and off campus.
Throughout the year, Fairmount offers community events such as our popular outdoor summer concert series, healthy-living expos, blood donation drives, educational presentations, wellness sessions and weight loss classes. We also provide opportunities for spiritual growth and support through worship services, Bible studies, singing groups and GriefShare support groups.
In addition, community members are welcome to participate in many of our social and service-oriented activities, including game nights, volunteer opportunities and access to our campus libraries.
Fairmount also serves as a gathering place for important life events, including weddings, reunions, funerals and memorial services.
Our goal is to be more than a retirement community – we strive to be a vibrant community partner where people of all ages can learn, connect, serve, worship and build meaningful relationships. We view community not simply as a place where people live, but as a network of relationships that strengthen, encourage and support one another.
