Judy McKonley had always dreamed of creating a state-of-the-art animal shelter devoted to cats. Judy didn’t live to see that dream come to fruition, so her family honored her legacy in 2019 by founding the Columbia Animal Shelter, which makes its home in what had been the Vigilant Fire Hall. Today, the shelter harbors cats, arranges adoptions, operates a low-cost clinic, and hosts youth programs and informational seminars.
Of course, fundraising is of utmost concern and the shelter addresses that need through line dancing events, concerts, a cooking/dining event, bingo and the upcoming Art & Wine Heist that is in its 9th year. The evening will feature a wine pull, an auction of unique experiences, the Fund the Need Paddle Auction and the art heist that sees guests race to claim their favorite pieces. The event has become hugely popular – $60,000 was raised last year – so be sure to reserve your ticket.
