Community Engagement: On and Off Campus

Since opening its doors in 1955, Pleasant View has enjoyed a close-knit relationship with Manheim. As the community has expanded over the years, the greater Manheim area has been thoughtfully taken into consideration in the planning and building of amenities and services. 

At Pleasant View, community engagement takes place on many levels. For example, memberships to the PVFiT fitness center and pool are made available to the public. The restaurant, Hearth and Harrow, also welcomes the public to enjoy its services. 

The Kreider Farms Cultural Center is the new home of the Manheim Community Library and features a large event space that is not only utilized by the library for events but is also made available to the public for weddings, sports team banquets, community events, etc. 

Intergenerational programs are also valued by residents, as they provide them with the opportunity to interact with younger generations. That will soon begin with the youngest members of the community. Construction is underway to transform a former nursing floor into a childcare center that will offer much-needed services to the Manheim area. 

On the high school level, groups from the Manheim Central and Manheim Township school districts visit often, whether to give musical performances or deliver Christmas cards. The Manheim Central Interact Club has planned many dances and other events for residents, while the Manheim Central Life Skills class has been a blessing, as they volunteer around campus and, through doing so, learn important skills. 

Pleasant View also partners with a Christian gap-year program, OneLife, that sees college-aged students live, study and volunteer on campus. 

Family interaction also thrives at Pleasant View, where there truly is something for everyone of all ages. From stopping for a bite to eat at Hearth and Harrow, to checking out a book from the Manheim Community Library, to visiting the Hoffer Farm animals, Pleasant View is a destination for families, not just seniors. There are plenty of volunteer opportunities available for individuals or families. Pleasant View also hosts frequent family-friendly events that are open to all, including the annual spring Community Day and the Christmas Celebration event.
